Anthropic settled how Claude Fable 5 would be sold. On Max plans and premium Team seats it became a standard part of the plan, with up to 50% of a weekly usage limit available for Fable 5 at no extra cost. On Pro plans and standard Team seats it sat outside plan limits, running on pay-as-you-go usage credits, with a one-time $100 credit for those affected. When Fable 5 launched on 9 June it was metered at $10 and $50 per million input and output tokens and was not part of any subscription. After a 19-day suspension under export controls it returned on 1 July, and a limited-time arrangement began folding it into plan usage limits. That arrangement had been extended once and was due to expire at 11:59:59pm PT on 19 July; what would follow it was set out on the 18th. Anthropic had intended to keep Fable 5 on API-style billing because of compute capacity, and the reversal was read as a response to competition from GPT-5.6 Sol and Kimi 3.
