OpenAI revised its usage policies, and the line listing "military and warfare" and "weapons development" as examples of activity with a high risk of physical harm was gone. The revised policy still says not to use the service to harm yourself or others, and gives developing or using weapons as an example. OpenAI described the revision as a rewrite for readability. The Intercept reported the change on 12 January, and the company acknowledged that it was already working with the US Department of Defense, including with DARPA on tools to secure open-source software.
