Luma AI opened Dream Machine, a video generator. Give it text or a still image and it returns about five seconds of video at 1360 × 752. There was a free tier: ten videos a day, thirty in total, without paying. OpenAI's Sora had been announced in February but was not open to the public, and places where you could actually try text-to-video yourself were still few at the time. Opinion was split. Tom's Guide called it "one of the best prompt following and motion understanding AI video models yet" while adding that "it is still falling short of what is needed," and The Verge noted that its training data was not public.
