OpenAI released gpt-3.5-turbo, the same model family used in the ChatGPT product, as an API, alongside an API for its Whisper speech recognition model. Priced at $0.002 per 1,000 tokens, it was 10x cheaper than the existing GPT-3.5 models. A new chat-completions-style endpoint consuming sequences of messages was introduced, letting developers embed conversational AI in any application and rapidly expanding the developer ecosystem.
