GitHub, a Microsoft subsidiary, launched the technical preview of GitHub Copilot, an AI pair programmer developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Powered by OpenAI Codex, it suggests line and whole-function completions in the editor based on comments and surrounding code. CEO Nat Friedman said it worked especially well for Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, and Go. Copilot became the first major product to embed a large language model into everyday developer workflows.
